I together with a few friends in the telecom and data networking industry are discussing to build a team in developing feasible voice or data networking product for both North American and Chinese market.
First of all, I have to say that we are not part of a start-up company (at least not yet), we also don’t have any established funding to start with (at least not yet) and we even don’t have an official place for gathering(at least not yet). All we have are the enthusiasm and talents that we are proud of. Tired of the gloomy economy situation, tired of waiting for the “right opportunity”, tired of saying “Going back to China to carry the career forward”, even tired of hearing other people’s success stories, we decided to get started.
Hereby, we are cordially inviting you to become a part of this team:
・Anyone who has experience in designing, engineering, deploying such type of product or solution in North American or China,
・Anyone with marketing, sales experience in North American or China of this industry,
・Anyone has creative ideas or believes that you can contribute to the team.

Our next meeting is scheduled on Saturday afternoon, April 13th, 2002 in Ottawa. You are encouraged to email me or give me a call if you are the same type of person as we are.

不太明白你们的基本想法是什么。你们将来打算如何定位?是想在渥太华开发产品然后卖到北美还是卖回国内?

如果想在北美卖,那么一帮中国人的公司几乎没有成功的可能。你没看到北京的外企还都本土化了么?至今建国门一带的外企公司里已经见不到几个老外了。中国人就是再能干,如果不熟悉这里的商业环境和法律环境根本没戏。要想把事情做起来必须聘请本土的加拿大人。

如果想把东西卖到国内,也不太容易。你在渥太华找个designer肯定比在中关村成本高多了,要不怎么那么多外国公司都把研发部门搬到中国去了?

你们现在可以没有办公地点,没有资金,甚至也可以没有成熟的想法,但如果没有这么一个明确的定位,恐怕不太容易吸引别人跟你们一起来干。

"大屁股 ", You did raise some good points.
But, as I said we are still at a " discussing" stage. At present time, there is no requirement for anybody to work full time on this matter yet.
We do have people working in design, engineering side, we also have people dealing with major telecos in North American daily. Of course, it maybe necessary to hire some "本土的加拿大人" later, but not now.
Yes, it is very important to "定位" the product and the market. We have some initial ideas, but we are still seeking more inputs.
