美国国会大楼前10月3日发生枪击事件，一名女性驾驶轿车欲冲进国会，遭警方阻挡，随后警方将其击毙。目前嫌疑人身份初步确认，但作案动机尚不可知。
据美联社10月3日报道，目前在华府前面驾车横冲直撞的女子身份初步确认，为康涅狄格州斯坦福镇的34岁的非洲裔女子----凯利（Miriam Carey）。凯利是斯坦福镇的一名牙科保健员。
事发当时肇事车后座还载有凯利的一岁左右女儿。女童并未受伤，目前已由警方监护。执法人员称，当时凯利驾驶黑色英菲尼迪轿车冲击国会大楼外的路障，后无视警方警告，遂被击毙。
警方在事发后抵达凯利的家进行调查，询问了凯利的亲友，但无一人相信此事为凯利所为。
凯利的妹妹艾米（Amy Carey）表示难以置信，艾米称凯利两天前还与自己联系，当时凯利还在康涅狄格州。此外她没有作出更多回应。
认识凯利的人都反应称她是个友善又大公无私的人，对于凯利引起这次事件表示不可置信。凯利周围的人都反应她在案发前也无任何异常举动，此前更没有精神疾病的迹象。
凯利的朋友兼校友温德利（Angela Windley）证实，凯利曾与自己共同就读于奥斯托斯社区学院（Hostos Community College），后获得口腔卫生专业专科学位。布鲁克林学院（Brooklyn College）人士证实，2007年时，该校确有名为凯利的人毕业，获得了健康和营养科学专业的学士学位。
温德利还表示，凯利对待工作十分专业，也很专心致志。但对她身处的环境并不是特别满意，总是说希望有更好的生活，希望离开现在的居住地，但她从未表现出对政府有任何积极或消极的评判。
凯利曾经的同学维佳（Sara Vega）也说她是个甜美友善的人。她同时透露凯利有四个姐妹，其中一个还是纽约市警官。
目前案件仍在进一步调查中。
