Ottawa - On Saturday March 29, the City of Ottawa will join the hundreds of millions of people around the world participating in Earth Hour 2014 between 8:30 and 9:30 p.m.
This year, the City will be switching off lights in City buildings at City Hall, Mary Pitt Centre and Ben Franklin Place. Where feasible, additional lights will be turned off and operating systems will be either turned off or minimized to reduce power consumption during that hour.
Hydro Ottawa will also be turning the lights off at all of their facilities for Earth Hour as well as tracking the drop in power consumption.
Residents and businesses are encouraged to join with the City and turn off your lights for one hour to support this powerful global call for action on climate change and energy conservation.
For safety reasons, all safety lights and required operational equipment will remain on at City Hall and all other City facilities observing Earth Hour. Lights located at the Rink of Dreams will also remain illuminated for safety reasons.
