One man is facing arson, weapons and drug charges after an almost 12-hour stand-off with Gatineau Police Service on Saturday.
The incident began when police and firefighters responded to reports of a car on fire in a parking lot at 90 Eardley Rd. at 2 a.m. Saturday. They extinguished the flames and discovered it was probably cause by arson. Their canine units directed police to 61 Tiberius Rd., an address known to police.
At 4 a.m., they arrested two men and one woman outside the residence. Two people remained in the house who refused to collaborate with police. Police believed at least one of the suspects might be armed and that there might be more weapons inside the house.
Police surrounded the house, increasing their perimeter as they day wore on and those inside refused to come out, blocking Eardley Road and evacuating a neighbouring house.
At 3:30 p.m., one of those inside the house came out and was detained. The last person in the house turned themselves in to police at about 5 p.m.
A search of the house at about 10 p.m. revealed some drugs, a handgun and a shotgun.
Two women and one man were later released without charges; one man was released but may face future charges. Another man remains in custody and faces charges, to be determined Sunday, relating to arson, weapons and drugs.
