According to a spokesman for Target Stores, liquidation of the inventory at its Canadian properties will begin as soon as it can get approval from bankruptcy courts to begin selling off inventory.
The company is due in court on Wednesday, which means the liquidation of stock in the company’s Canadian stores could begin as early as Thursday.
Target is in the process of closing 133 stores across Canada after a failed bid to expand the retailer outside of the U.S. Thanks to a shrewd $1.8-billion real-estate deal that Target cut with former Canadian retailer Zellers in 2011, the American chain has large stores in key locations across Canada, including around Ottawa where it has key properties such as a yet-to-open location in Bayshore Shopping Centre.
