A complaint has been made with Gatineau police of an alleged incident of sexual misconduct involving players from the Gatineau Olympiques junior hockey team on Friday night.
Quebec media reports said the incident involved at least six unidentified players from the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League team and a woman in the washroom of a restaurant in the Plateau neighbourhood of Gatineau.
LeDroit newspaper reported that the players allegedly encouraged or committed sexual acts against the woman.
The Olympiques defeated the visiting Chicoutimi Saguenéens in a game at the Robert Guertin Arena on Friday evening. On Sunday afternoon, they defeated the Rimouski Océanic, also at the Guertin Arena.
The team and the QMJHL issued a joint statement Monday morning saying that the situation reported in the media was being taken “very seriously. There will be an internal investigation and a process will be established for next steps. There will be no further comment on this situation until further notice.”
The Olympiques are scheduled to go on a long road trip through Atlantic Canada, starting Friday night at Moncton against the Wildcats.
