The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League says it will assist police with their investigation into the Gatineau Olympiques after a Quebec City newspaper reported that four of the team’s players are being investigated for an alleged sexual assault in that city in January 2014.

Le Soleil is reporting that a woman recently came forward to police in Trois-Rivières, Que., with her father, with allegations she was sexually assaulted in a Quebec City hotel. It is believed the woman made the complaint in the past two weeks, according to Le Soleil. None of the players involved in the alleged sexual assault were named in the news report.

During the month of January 2014, the Olympiques played five road games — two in Shawinigan, one each in Baie-Comeau, Chicoutimi and Blainville-Boisbriand.

It is the second police investigation launched in the past three weeks into the conduct of Gatineau Olympiques players.

An investigation was launched by Gatineau police into a public indecency complaint following an alleged incident in the bathroom of a Gatineau Boston Pizza restaurant on Feb. 20.

Quebec media reports said that incident involved at least six unidentified players from the team and a woman in the washroom of the restaurant in the Plateau neighbourhood. LeDroit newspaper reported that a waiter noticed the bathroom door barred shut and being watched by another player. He forced the door open and ordered all of the players outside.

“The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League will fully co-operate with the police in the context of this investigation following a complaint against players of the Gatineau Olympiques,” said a statement released by the league Tuesday once details of the latest allegations were reported. “The commissioner will make all necessary decisions after verification and analysis of the facts and circumstances.”

The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League had already appointed an external investigator to look into the initial allegations at the Boston Pizza. Lawyer Richard Paquette has been mandated to investigate that case on behalf of the league.
