A 20-year-old Val-des-Monts faces a number of charges including attempted murder after he allegedly fired a shot at a man and was then dragged by a car for several hundred metres following a fight at a Cantley hardware store.

The incident occurred Wednesday at about 1 p.m. when a suspect and a 21-year-old Papineauville man got into an argument inside the store on Montée Paiement.

There was contradictory evidence about the nature of the fight, but police said it was a “personal business dispute” and not related to criminal activity.

When the victim was leaving the building, a shot was fired from a rifle, striking the side panel of his car.

The suspect tried to drive away from the scene but the victim grabbed onto the driver’s door and was dragged for several hundred metres before falling to the road under the car.

His ankle was crushed by the suspect’s car, but he has already been released from hospital.

An MRC des Collines police SWAT team raided a home at about 10 p.m. Wednesday and arrested the suspect.

The suspect is expected to appear today at the Gatineau courthouse on charges that could include attempted murder.

Police are looking for witnesses who may have seen the victim hanging from the window of alleged assailant’s vehicle, a black Toyota Solara. They are also looking for the driver of a black pickup, who would have stopped and offered assistance to the victim as he was on the ground.

Witnesses are asked to contact Det. Sgt. Patrick Tremblay at 819-459-2422, ext. 3286.
