All Future Shop stores in Canada are closing today.
Best Buy Canada, which owns Best Buy and Future Shop stores, announced Saturday morning that 66 Future Shop locations are closing immediately.
Another 65 Future Shop stores will be temporarily closed for a week as they transition to Best Buy stores.
It’s unclear how many of the store’s six locations in Ottawa-Gatineau will become Best Buy stores, and how many will close.

The company said 500 full-time and 1,000 part-time jobs will be lost as a result of its consolidation. The employees will receive severance, employee assistance and outplacement support, the company said.
“Any decisions that impact our people are never taken lightly; our first priority is to support them through this change,” company president and chief operating officer Ron Wilson said in a release.
In the release, the company said it has reviewed its real estate footprint “to address the fact that a significant number of its Future Shop and Best Buy stores are located adjacent to each other, often in the same parking lot.”
Best Buy Canada is a subsidiary of Minnesota-based Best Buy Company, which bought Future Shop for $580 million in 2001.
Future Shop gift cards will be accepted at Best Buy stores and on its website, and warranties for products purchased at Future Shop will be honoured by Best Buy.
