Gatineau police have closed off a street in the Promenades District as they try to persuade a man barricaded inside a house to give himself up after he earlier threatened police.
Police officials said they received calls mid-Sunday afternoon after several people spotted Facebook postings in which a man “threatened to kill police officers”.
Officers went to the man’s home on Rue de Pincourt, near Rue de Montfort, but he refused to come out of the house and, instead, barricaded himself inside.
Not sure of the nature of his threats, police closed off the street and tried to negotiate with the man.
The standoff continued late Sunday night. Police said no one besides the man is inside the house.
The man, they said, is known to police from previous encounters.
