The real stakes of the Ottawa Senators-Montreal Canadiens playoff series have been set.
Following in that most sacred of playoff rituals — the public wager of politicians — Mayor Jim Watson and his Montreal counterpart, Mayor Denis Coderre, have agreed to the following terms, according to a statement issued Monday by Watson’s office:
Depending on the results of the first-round NHL playoff series:
• The losing city’s mayor will wear the winning team’s jersey to a city council meeting;
• The losing city’s mayor will fly the winning team’s flag at City Hall for a week;
• If Ottawa wins, Mayor Coderre will send Montreal smoked meat to Mayor Watson; and
• If Montreal wins, Mayor Watson will send Beavertails to Mayor Coderre.
