Ottawa –Residents of Ottawa are encouraged to get active for at least one hour this Saturday as the City participates in National Health and Fitness Day on June 6.

In celebration of National Health and Fitness Day, the City of Ottawa is offering two-for-one swimming at all City pools during regular scheduled swim times. This includes lane, public and family swims, with the exception of wave swims. Two-for-one access will also be available to weight and cardio rooms at City fitness facilities.

Visit ottawa.ca for public swim schedules and recreation facility locations.

As well this weekend, Ottawa Public Health has partnered for a fourth straight year with sports retailers across the city to bring Ottawa residents a discount on helmets on Saturday June 6 and Sunday June 7.

Helmets are recommended for activities like skateboarding, rollerblading, biking, sledding, skating skiing and snowboarding. In Ontario, it is mandatory for anyone under the age of 18 to wear a certified helmet while riding a bicycle (Highway Traffic Act).

The City of Ottawa is committed to helping residents of all ages to adopt a healthy lifestyle through the provision of public education and recreation opportunities aimed at increasing physical activity levels and reducing obesity. Browse the City of Ottawa Spring/Summer recreation guide for classes offered at a facility near you.
