A 16-year-old girl has been charged with two counts of dangerous driving causing death in connection with a horrific crash in South Frontenac Township earlier this month that killed two teens and injured three others.
The driver, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was also charged with two counts of dangerous driving causing bodily harm, the Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release.
The crash happened shortly before 11 p.m. on June 17 when the driver lost control of the Hyundai SUV on Rutledge Road, just north of Kingston.
The two victims, 16-year-old Abigail Sutherland of Kingston and Kevin Grant of South Frontenac, died at the scene.
Three other teenagers were taken to hospital, including a 17-year-old boy with life-threatening injuries. The female driver was treated in hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Police don’t believe alcohol was involved in the crash.
The was released on condition she appears at the Ontario Court of Justice in Kingston on July 21.
