A Gatineau man suffered a “serious head injury” after being punched in the face as a result of a road rage incident on Sunday, according to local police.

The victim, who is believed to be 50 years old, was transported to the Hull hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after the incident on Highway 105 near Chelsea, according to public relations officer Martin Fournel from the MRC des Collines-de-l’Outaouais.

The victim, travelling with his spouse, was heading north when another vehicle quickly approached his from behind. The suspect, another male, allegedly tailgated and attempted to pass the victim’s vehicle, but the victim pulled over to the side of the road in order to let the other vehicle pass.

The suspect also pulled his car over and soon after an argument followed in which the victim was punched in the face and fell unconscious to the ground. The suspect fled the scene before police arrived, but the MRC were able to identify him based on information they gathered.

Police were still investigating on Monday.
