Ottawa police seek the public’s help in finding a man in his 30s who engaged in an indecent act toward a teenaged girl walking on a Kanata-area hiking trail earlier this week.
The 14-year-old was on a trail near Timm and Haanel drives, north of Robertson Road between 7:30 and 8:30 p.m. Monday when a man she’d spotted on an adjacent path began following her.
At one point, the man — described as a brown-haired white man, standing 5-foot-6 and wearing a grey T-shirt with writing on the front, dark coloured shorts and dark sneakers — stopped behind her and performed an indecent act.
When the girl fled, the man followed her until he saw another man walking the trail.
“His presence helped (the girl get away),” said police spokesman Const. Marc Soucy.
Anyone who might have knowledge of this incident is asked to contact the police service’s sexual assault and child abuse section at 613-236-1222, ext. 5944. Anonymous tips can be submitted by calling Crime Stoppers at 613-233-8477 (TIPS), toll-free at 1-800-222-8477 or downloading the Ottawa Police iOS app.
