Gatineau police have arrested two suspected teenage car thieves, one of them after a short chase through city streets Thursday afternoon.
Police say they were called to an apartment building parking lot in the Plateau sector at about 1:30 p.m.
Residents had reported suspicious behaviour and, based on license plate numbers sent by residents, police identified two stolen cars, a late-model Acura SUV and a Dodge minivan.
When police arrived, they arrested a 15-year-old Ottawa youth in the lot. However, the second suspect managed to jump into one of the stolen vehicles, elude a squad car and flee.
Other cars gave chase and the the suspect, a 16-year-old Gatineau youth, was stopped and arrested without incidence at a residence on Vanier Road in Aylmer.
The teens were held in jail overnight and were to appear in youth court Friday on a number of charges, including theft and receiving.
The driver who fled custody also faces charges including driving without a license and refusing to stop for police and faces fines totalling $399.
