The federal agency stated that conditions in the afternoon will be favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing heavy rain, large hail and strong wind gusts.

Also Sunday, Ottawa Fire Services tweeted that, due to high temperatures and an expected high humidex, a burn ban was in effect for the city of Ottawa.

The heat warning remained in effect, with a forecast high of 30 C on Sunday and 31 on Monday. The overnight lows were to be 20 and 21. The “humidex value” on Sunday is expected to reach a high of 38.

There is to be only slight relief on Tuesday and Wednesday, with forecast highs of 27 and 28, respectively. On Thursday, the high is expected to drop to 24.

Ottawa Public Health invites residents to cool down at City of Ottawa pools, splash pads and community centres, as well as Ottawa Public Library branches.
