A Gatineau apartment building blaze that firefighters battled overnight is now being investigated by police.
Firefighters think the fire, which began Friday night, might have been intentionally set. They are ruling that the fire, which displaced eight people, is potentially suspicious and have called in police to investigate.
Firefighters received a call at 10:20 p.m. reporting 47 Wright St., a historic building home to nine apartments and a grocery store, was in flames.
Firefighters had determined that the fire started at the back of the building and then spread up through the roof and third floor. It took until 7 a.m. Saturday for them to control the blaze.
Total damage was estimated at $700,000.
Police continued to investigate at the scene of the fire Sunday. Fire officials said more information could be available as early as Monday.
