A 38-year-old Gatineau woman who was wrapped in nothing but a beach towel is facing impaired driving and drug possession charges after she was stopped by police on Highway 307 with her six-year-old daughter in the back seat of the car.
MRC des Collines said a concerned driver called them after spotting the woman weaving down the highway in Cantley at about 11:20 p.m. Monday night. Police pulled the car over and discovered the otherwise naked woman was over the legal limit to drive. Officers also seized marijuana and methamphetamines.
MRC des Collines Const. Martin Fournel said police officers took the six-year-old girl to a local coffee shop for a doughnut and a drink while waiting for her father to arrive. Child welfare authorities were also notified.
The woman wasn’t the only impaired driver the MRC des Collines dealt with over the weekend.
Police said a 32-year-old Gatineau man was charged with impaired driving after being pulled over going 131 km/h in a 90 km/h zone on Hwy. 148 in Quyon at about 11 a.m. Sunday. According to police, the driver had a blood-alcohol level close to three times the legal limit to drive. Police said the man was on his way home from the Shawville Fair after a night of drinking when he was stopped while driving his boss’ car.
Police seized the car for thirty days and the driver’s license was suspended for 90 days.
The man returns to court Dec. 2.
