The jobless rate in the National Capital Region tumbled to 6.3 per cent in September, versus 6.5 per cent in August, thanks to 3,200 net new jobs while labour force increased by just 2,100.
The report was highlighted by the continued rapid improvement in Gatineau job market.
The September jobless rate was 6.7 per cent, versus 6.8 per cent in August, but it’s way down from 7.7 per cent in June. Net new jobs in that time was 7,300.
In the city of Ottawa, the jobless rate was 6.2 per cent in September.
There was a small hike in tech jobs in capital region, which rose 3,200 in September, from August, for a new total of 41,200. However, that’s still down a lot from 56,600 jobs in the sector a year ago.
Meanwhile, federal government jobs in the capital totalled 128,300 in September, up 1,300 from August, but down 8,100 year over year.
Nationally, Canada added 12,000 jobs in September but the national unemployment rate increased by one-tenth of a point to 7.1 per cent.
