Ottawa police is seeking the public’s help in finding popular Ottawa journalist and politician Fred Ennis, 68, who has gone missing in the Alta Vista area.

Ennis was last seen at the Alta Vista Retirement Community on Peter Morand Crescent, near Smyth Road and Botsford Street, around 1 p.m. Monday afternoon.

He was wearing a black jacket and black safari-style hat, and is described as a white man, 5-foot-9, and weighing about 200 lbs.

Ennis was the Ottawa bureau chief for the Newsradio service in the 1980s before moving to the Ottawa Sun in the 1990s, where he wrote the Page Six column before moving to CFRA, where he hosted an afternoon news/talk show.

He eventually tried his hand at local politics, running unsuccessfully for the Nepean mayoralty in 1997 and for Ottawa city council in 2010.

Anyone with information on Ennis’s whereabouts is asked to phone the police at 613-230-6211 or contact the East District Investigations at 613-236-1222 ext. 3566. Anonymous tips can be submitted by calling Crime Stoppers toll-free at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or by downloading the Ottawa Police iOS app.
