Snowy weather conditions coupled with icy roads led to numerous delays for commuters on Thursday morning.
A moderate amount of snow has been falling overnight onto what already was a slick road surface, making rush hour particularly difficult to navigate.
Ottawa Police said, while only 13 accidents had been reported since 5 a.m., that slick roads have led to heavy traffic on major roadways as drivers slow to a crawl in order to arrive at their destination safely.
Buses weren’t immune to the weather conditions, as passengers complained of long lines and delayed buses.
OC Transpo took to Twitter Thursday morning to urge patience, saying the slick road conditions have led to delays in excess of 30 minutes on some routes, which affected the morning commute.
The snowfall is expected to taper off through the day.
Temperatures are expected to remain around -7 C for most of the day Thursday before dropping to -14 C tonight. Friday’s high is expected to be -9C.
More to come.
