Ottawa police say they have determined that at least one recent incident of suspected child luring was simply an innocent mistake.

Police said Monday they have identified and interviewed the driver of a large pickup truck who offered a stuffed animal to a 13-year-old girl in Old Ottawa South on Jan. 31 and determined that there was no intent to lure or hurt the child. No charges will be laid.

Officers continue to investigate another report of child luring and sexual assault alleged to have occurred in the area of Grove and Leonard avenues, also in Old Ottawa South, on Nov. 30. Police have not released details about the suspected assault.

Anyone with information is asked contact police at 613-236-1222, ext. 5944, or Crime Stoppers at 613-233-8477.
