Winter is not quite done with us yet.

Environment Canada issued a special weather statement at 5 a.m. Sunday morning, forecasting freezing rain and snow late in the evening and into Monday morning. The high was expected to reach 2C during the day on Sunday, and -2C overnight.

To blame is a low-pressure system from Alberta sweeping across the country, bringing an expected accumulation of 2 to 4 centimetres of snow in the evening in the Ottawa area and St. Lawrence Valley, and more in the northwest of the province.

The weather service said the precipitation is likely to turn to ice pellets and then freezing rain around midnight as the warm front from the clipper gets closer, lasting into the early hours of Monday morning.

Rain will then dominate the early part of the week, with a high of 8 C forecast for both Monday and Friday.

But this will be helpful to the city’s burgeoning spring bulbs, as they will then get sun for the rest of the week, with highs reach over the seasonal norm starting with 12 C on Thursday, and climbing to 16C by the weekend.
