A woman clearing out old possessions from a house in Kanata got a shock Wednesday afternoon when she discovered dynamite that had belonged to an older family member.
Police sealed off several blocks of Castlefrank Road in Kanata and evacuated residents of some nearby homes. About an hour later they removed eight to 10 sticks of dynamite safely and took it away for disposal.
Dynamite becomes unstable as it ages and old sticks can explode when handled or moved.
The house is a few blocks east of Terry Fox Drive.
