Belleville police are investigating after a person was found dead following an early morning fire on Sills Road, in the city’s north end.
Acting Staff-Sgt. Julie Forestell said first responders were called around 7 a.m. to the home which was engulfed by fire.
She said there was also a report of a gunshot being heard in the area.
Police located one deceased person at the scene.
Although there were widespread reports on social media of police shooting an individual at the site, police said in a release they were not involved in any exchange of gunfire during this incident.
Traffic travelling on Highway 37 is being redirected at Harmony Road and Mudcat Road.
