A Barrhaven math teacher has had more sexual assault charges laid against him after two more of his alleged victims went to police.

Police charged Naoum Abi-Samra, 57, on Friday with two counts of sexual assault and two counts of sexual interference. The new charges come after Abi-Samra was also charged last week with the same set of offences.

The case against Abi-Samra is now comprised of the complaints of three female former students, who say the teacher touched them inappropriately and made sexually explicit comments to them. Police allege Abi-Samra assaulted one student between September 2013 and January 2014 and two other students just this last semester from January 2016 to April 2016, while he was employed by the Central East French Catholic School Board.

Abi-Samra taught math at École secondaire catholique Pierre-Savard in Barrhaven. The offences are alleged to have occurred at the school but not in class. The school board previously told the Citizen that Abi-Samra was removed from his position on March 11 when the board received a complaint against him. The board continues an internal investigation in Abi-Samra’s conduct with students.

He was granted bail on one set of charges last week and was prohibited from going within 500 metres of the student or any public place, such as a park or playground, where there are minors. He was also told he was not to work with children.

Abi-Samra’s next court appearance for that first set of charges is scheduled for May 9.

Police continue to believe there could be more victims and ask anyone with information on Abi-Samra to contact the sexual assault/child abuse unit at 613-236-1222, ext. 5944 or phone CrimeStoppers at 613-233-8477 (TIPS) or toll-free at 1-800-222-8477.
