Extrication equipment was required after Ottawa Fire Services was called to an accident at 1234 Kinburn Side Rd. shortly after 11 p.m. on Friday night.
A vehicle had gone into a ditch and the person inside was unconscious when firefighters arrived, the news release stated. Crews applied a C spine to the patient to immobilize the head before the patient was placed in the care of Ottawa paramedics.
The driver, a 40-year-old man, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, though his condition was upgraded to stable but still critical, police said early Saturday morning.
His identity was not released.
Police added that they are investigating the cause of the accident. The road was closed overnight, but was re-opened early Saturday morning.
