No was injured after an SUV crashed through the front window of a dry-cleaning store in Stittsville on Tuesday afternoon.

“It’s horrible what happened here but thank God no one was killed, no one was hurt and that’s the big news,” said David Hillary, owner of Hillary’s Cleaners.

“I guess they didn’t like our quality or they didn’t like our service,” he said jokingly.

A woman driving a navy blue SUV was trying to pull into a parking space in front of the store at approximately 1:35 p.m. when the crash happened, said Const. Isabelle Coady.

“It was an accident — something that happened by mistake,” she said.

No one was injured and the driver of the vehicle will not be charged, Coady said.

A Hallmark Cards store directly next to Hillary’s also sustained some minor damage to the wall that separates the two shops.

“It was just like a really big bang,” said Isabelle Baird, an employee who was in the back of the store when the crash happened.

Picture frames fell off their shelves due to the strength of the impact of the crash, she said.

While unusual, it wasn’t the first time such a thing happened, Hillary said. In 1951, only a year after he and his father first opened the store, a car smashed through the very same window.

Fortunately, no customers were inside when the collision occurred Tuesday and the one employee on shift was at the back of the store at the time, Hillary said.

Insurance will cover any damages and the shop is expected to reopen Wednesday, he said.
