Gatineau police nabbed 18 drivers for using a cellphone while driving in a pop-up roadcheck Wednesday between 8 a.m. an 9 p.m. a Boulevard des Allumettières and Demontigny Street.
Each ticket was for $127 and four demerit points.
Police reminded drivers that the simple act of holding a cellphone while at the wheel of a car, even while stopped at a light, is banned.
They warn that other surprise spotcheck operations will be staged over the next few weeks.
