A six-year-old boy was seriously injured, while a four-year-old girl and a man, 39, were also hurt Saturday afternoon when they were flipped out of their small outboard-powered boat in the Ottawa River near Britannia.

The boy was in serious condition with injuries to the torso and extremity injuries. The girl and the man suffered only minor injuries.

The incident occurred shortly after noon.

Paramedics said a witness on the shore used their own boat to rescue the victims from the water and called 911.

Paramedics noted all three were wearing life jackets “which both contributed greatly to their survival as well as minimizing injury and what could have certainly been a tragedy.

“During this holiday long weekend the Ottawa Paramedic Service would like to remind everyone to wear a life jacket while boating and be safe while enjoying water activities.”
