Ottawa police have arrested and charged Adam Bouchard, 27, of Ottawa after he allegedly fled from police when they tried to pull him over for suspected impaired driving on Wednesday.

East patrol officers responded to a call about a suspected impaired driver at around 7:15 p.m. near Victoria and Bowen streets.

One officer located the suspected vehicle and attempted to pull it over, but it sped away. The officer began to chase the car.

The pursuit continued, and the suspected vehicle drove towards a soccer field near the Leitrim Road police station where kids were playing while parents watched alongside the field. At that point, the officer stopped the pursuit for public safety reasons.

The vehicle then drove onto the soccer field where it began to drive in circles. At that point, the officers resumed the chase.

The car began to drive away from the park and was followed by several police cruisers.

The officers eventually stopped the vehicle on Hawthorne Road and and arrested the suspect.

Bouchard has been charged with impaired driving, possession of a dangerous weapon, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, fail to stop for police, theft under $5,000 and three counts of breach of recognizance.

Bouchard was scheduled to appear in court Thursday.

No injuries to the public were reported.
