Police in Quebec say they have found the body of an Ottawa man that went missing while on his sail boat on Saturday.

The body of Stephen Cozzette, 57, was discovered in the Ottawa River near Luskville.

Foul play is not suspected in Cozzette’s death, police said, although details surrounding the experienced sailor’s death have not been released.

Ottawa police had resumed the search for the man on Tuesday afternoon, with support from a helicopter.

Cozzette was reported missing on Saturday, when his three-masted boat, the Elmo Earleywine, was discovered late in the afternoon, stuck on a shoal near the Quebec shore, its small auxiliary engine still running with no one aboard.

He was described as a sailor who “knows this river like the back of his hand,” according to a family friend.

MRC des Collines police began the search after the initial report of his disappearance, requesting assistance from Ottawa emergency services over the weekend. Ottawa police joined in the search, which was launched from a marina in Constance Bay.

Cozzette’s car was found at the Nepean Sailing Club on Saturday evening, and police advised his family of the disappearance at about 8 p.m.

A missing persons report was subsequently filed, and on Sunday night police were appealing to the public for any information into the man’s disappearance.
