A 24-year-old Gatineau man was slapped with a $1,669 fine and lost 18 demerit points after the Sûreté du Québec caught him travelling more than twice the speed limit on Highway 5.
Police said the driver was spotted at about 1 a.m. travelling at more than 160 kph in a 70-kph zone near the Highway 50 interchange.
He was arrested following a short pursuit.
The man, whose identity was not released, also had his license suspended for seven days.
