The Orleans Star, a 30-year-old community newspaper, has been purchased by its former managing editor for an undisclosed sum.
Fred Sherwin, a former editor and managing editor at the publication, announced the purchase from Transcontinental Media in the paper Friday.
“Community newspapers, and especially locally-owned and operated community newspapers, have traditionally served as the heart of the community,” said Sherwin in the paper today. “It’s a position and a responsibility I want The Star to take on as it begins this latest chapter of its existence.”
Sherwin was with the Star between 1989 and 2001. He left the paper to start online news portal Orleansonline.ca, which is still in operation.
The paper also announced it would be moving from a weekly publication schedule to a bi-weekly schedule.
