A story from iPolitics today revealed a potential plan to spend $38 million on renovating 24 Sussex Drive, the Prime Minister’s residence that was built about 150 years ago.

Renovations have long been delayed at the home, primarily for reasons of political optics: It just looks bad to spend that much money to improve your own living quarters. The $38 million includes “a new annex building with private quarters and a pool,” according to iPolitics.

Earlier, the Citizen reported on the dangerous conditions caused by the ancient wiring in the home.

The big question now: Is the home worth renovating at that cost? Twitter had some thoughts…

If fixing up 24 Sussex would cost $38M at this point, the feds have basically carried out a demolition by neglect.

Just for fun, though, maybe as a gesture of friendship we could invite the U.S. Army to come set fire to it.

I said this when the Harpers lived there and I say it again, don't make this a partisan issue, just fix that house. https://t.co/ACJ1UjuXsK

You might wonder why a previous occupant didn't steam ahead with this one…… https://t.co/oqU9lzgc2K

Seriously though, hard pass on this. Sell it or tear it down. https://t.co/F18bb26ga3

Tearing down 24 Sussex seems too easy. What if we pushed it into the Ottawa River as part of the Canada 150 celebrations?

The real controversy should be turning 24 Sussex into a ceremonial building, with the PM/family living in the "addition". https://t.co/plxRph89OJ

Canadians can't go inside 24 Sussex. Most couldn’t draw or describe it. It’s not the White House. Tear the damn thing down.

Let's tear down 24 Sussex, build an affordable housing complex in its place, and give the PM a penthouse suite. https://t.co/SvXFomIiHh

Love It Or List It: 24 Sussex …..who's with me?

What do you think should be done with 24 Sussex?
