You might want to get outside on Christmas Day and enjoy the clear skies while they last, because nasty weather is coming for Monday.

Environment Canada has issued a freezing rain warning for the Ottawa area, with the first of it expected to start on Boxing Day.

“Significant ice build-up due to freezing rain is expected from late Monday morning until Monday afternoon, however it may continue into Monday evening along the Ottawa or St. Lawrence river valleys,” the warning says.

“Hazards may include slippery conditions on untreated roads and walkways through the day with 5 to 10 millimetres of ice accretion possible in many areas.”

As for today, the forecast is for mainly sun, with the temperature hovering around -8 during the afternoon. The overnight low is -14.

Monday will be warmer, with temperatures expected to stay around 0 or 1 degrees throughout the day.
