Yvon Bauduy of Gatineau has been identified as the 62-year-old cyclist who was killed New Year’s Day on Highway 105 in Chelsea.
MRC des Collines police said Monday that Bauduy was struck consecutively by two vehicles travelling north on the highway just after 6 a.m.
The roads were only partly plowed that morning, said police spokesman Martin Fournel, and Bauduy was cycling in the middle of the lane instead of on the shoulder, which was covered in snow.
Bauduy was the only one injured in the crash. He was rushed to the Gatineau Hospital, where he was declared dead.
Fournel said the crash was a combination of Bauduy cycling in the middle of the lane, the dark clothes he was wearing, his lack of helmet and the dark time of day.
The two drivers involved will not be facing any charges.
