Even with a risk of afternoon showers, Tuesday’s forecast is nothing to sniff at with a mix of sun and cloud and a high of 21 C.

But Wednesday is even better, a taste of high-summer to relieve what’s been a cold, dreary spring.

The situation is looking sunnier for car commuters, too.

While a crash blocked the centre lane of Hwy. 417 eastbound at Woodroffe Avenue around 7 a.m., it was quickly cleared up so traffic should lighten heading into downtown Ottawa.

The City of Gatineau had some long-awaited good news news Tuesday morning: The barriers are gone and traffic on Boulevard Fournier is now moving freely in both directions. The Hwy. 50 off-ramps are open both westbound and eastbound, too.

For Tuesday, Environment Canada predicts a 30-per-cent chance of showers for the afternoon and early evening, a UV index of 8 or very high to go with the mix of sun and cloud and an overnight low of 11 C.

Wednesday is expected to be mainly sunny with a high of 28 C and humidex (remember those?) of 35 and overnight low of 19 C.

Thursday is forecast to feature a mix of sun and cloud, high of 29 C and 60 per cent chance of showers or thunderstorms overnight with the temperature dipping to 17 C.

Friday clears up with sunshine and a high of 24 C.

Saturday is forecast to be sunny but a bit cooler at 19 C. There’s a 30-per-cent chance of showers overnight into Sunday, which is expected to be 20 C with a mix of sun and cloud and 40 per cent chance of showers.

Victoria Day is forecast to feature a mix of sun and cloud and a high of 21 C.
