A 26-year-old Blainville man appeared in court in Gatineau Tuesday facing charges including impaired driving causing death in the head-on crash that killed Amina-Sara Belahbib, 24, on Highway 50 in November.

After prosecutors reviewed the case, a warrant was issued for the arrest of François Castonguay Danis last week and he was arrested by Sûreté du Québec officers Monday.

He’s also charged with impaired driving causing bodily harm.

Belahbib, of Gatineau, was killed Nov. 13 when an eastbound car veered into the westbound lane at about 2:15 a.m. and crashed into a vehicle with three people in it.

Belahbib was ejected upon impact from the back seat of the car and was later declared dead at a local hospital.

The driver and other passenger suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Belahbib had recently completed an undergraduate degree in international development at the University of Ottawa, her father said at the time.
