The Fisheries Council of Canada (FCC) is seeking a president to lead its team in Ottawa. This position reports to the board of directors.

The FCC is a non-profit, national, private sector trade association representing companies engaged in the growing, harvesting, processing and marketing of fish and seafood. Established in 1915, and having changed its name to FCC in 1945, the FCC is Canada’s leading fish and seafood voice promoting a healthy, sustainable resource and developing an economically sound, market-driven, competitively structured industry offering harvesters, employees and employers secure and stable opportunities. Canada’s food industry has been identified as a key sector for growth in Canada’s economy by the Finance Minister’s Advisory Panel on Economic Growth. The president of the FCC has an important role to play in ensuring the seafood sector meets its full potential in the Canadian economy.

Responsibilities of the president include:

  • Operating in various areas including foreign market access, food inspection, technical issues, trade policy, international fisheries issues, oceans policy, Canadian fisheries and broad government policy;
  • Representing the industry to governments;
  • Maintaining media contact and making public presentations;
  • Responsibility for contract consultants and budget management.

Job specifications of the president include:

  • a Bachelor’s Degree in Business or equivalent experience, however acquired;
  • Exceptional communication and leadership skills;
  • Exceptional influencing and negotiation skills;
  • French as a second language and employment in a trade association are helpful, but not essential
