Ottawa Fire Services is warning people to avoid the area near Fréchette and Lavergne streets in Vanier as they tackle a gas leak after a four-inch main line was punctured Monday.
Fire crews were securing the area as workers from Enbridge, which notified the fire department of the leak shortly after 1 p.m., checked gas levels in surrounding homes. Some were evacuated and residents of other houses were told to close their doors and windows.
The fire department asked nearby residents to wait for further instructions.
