Fire crews doused a fully engulfed Smart Car on Hwy. 417 westbound near Bronson Avenue early Wednesday afternoon after the tiny micromodel turned into a big ball of flame and plume of smoke.
Thankfully, the car’s passengers had safely cleared out by the time fire crews arrived.
Ottawa fire received multiple 911 calls at 12:19 and found the car fully engulfed moments later. They had the fire out and were cooling the wreckage down by 12:33 p.m., although it was noted that the amount of magnesium used in building the Smart Car added to the time it took to put it out.
