A young Pontiac man is facing impaired driving charges after crashing his car, which then caught fire, into a Hydro-Québec pole that dropped live wires.

The 19-year-old fled the crash at about 3:30 a.m. Saturday when police arrived on the scene on Principale Road East in Sainte-Cécile-de-Masham, near La Pêche,

He was spotted on foot by firefighters two hours later. Firefighters had to wait for a hydro crew to cut power to the downed wires.

MRC des Collines de l’Outaouais police said Saturday it was lucky no one was injured.

An 18-year-old Gatineau woman, Sabryna Mongeon, was critically injured when her car went out of control Christmas Eve and crashed into a hydro pole on an isolated highway near Luskville, QC.

She was electrocuted by the live wires and continues to recover in a Montreal hospital following a series of major amputations.
