Crime Stoppers says it will pay $2,000 for tips leading to the seizure of illegal guns in response to an increase in the city’s gun violence.
The $2,000 — the maximum cash reward offered by Crime Stoppers — will be offered between Feb. 1 and April 30.
” We have seen an increase in the reckless use of illegal firearms in public areas close to where children play in the daytime,” Richard McMullen, president of the National Capital Area Crime Stoppers, said in a release.
So far this year, there have been 13 incidents of shots fired, two resulting in deaths and six result in injuries.
Anyone with information regarding illegal guns or any other criminal activity can submit an anonymous tip by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or visit www.crimestoppers.ca.
Police ask the public not to bring firearms or ammunition into police stations but instead call Ottawa police at 613-236-1222.
