The occupants were thankfully unhurt when two passenger vehicles were struck by a wheel that flew off a delivery truck on Highway 417 Friday morning, leading to traffic snarls on both sides of the highway.
Ottawa Fire Services said around 11:15 a.m. that they were on their way to a crash involving wheels that came off a tractor-trailer in the eastbound lanes near Parkdale Avenue. Upon arrival, reports were that one vehicle was struck by a single wheel that had come off a smaller vehicle identified by the OPP as a delivery-style truck.
Paramedics said no one was hurt.
The OPP, which tweeted that the left lane in both directions was blocked, reported that two cars were struck by the wheel. They were investigating with the help of the Ministry of Transportation.
All lanes have since reopened.
