Fans of the short-lived space western Firefly will see a familiar face at Ottawa Comiccon in May — Canadian actress Jewel Staite, who played the multi-dimensional ship’s mechanical Kaylee Frye on the show.
Staite, who’s known for her roles in several fantasy and sci-fi productions, including Firefly feature film continuation Serenity and Stargate spinoff Stargate Atlantis, is the latest guest to be added to Comiccon’s lineup.
Trish Stratus
Alongside Staite, organizers also announced the addition of seven-time WWE women’s champion Trish Stratus, along with two well-known cosplayers Monika Lee and Riki LeCotey.
Stratus was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2013 and now has her own line of fitness products.
Lee first began cosplay in 2006 after taking an interest in manga, anime and video games.
When she isn’t studying industrial design at the Georgia Institute of Technology, Lee competes in cosplay competitions around the world and is often invited to appear at conventions.
Riki LeCotey
Lee and LeCotey have both been featured on Syfy channel’s Heroes of Cosplay, with the latter being the main cast members on both the show’s seasons.
LeCotey, who is from Canada but is based in the U.S., has been costuming for the past 14 years and has worked behind the scenes in movies such as Big Momma’s House: Like Father Like Son and X-Men: First Class.
