One person was displaced after a fire broke out in an Orléans triplex Friday afternoon.

Ottawa Fire Services said a caller at 3:18 p.m reported flames could be seen coming out of the roof at 7108 Notre Dame St. A neighbour told the dispatcher residents were escaping the building.

Crews rushing to the scene said they could see the smoke from St. Joseph Boulevard.

Firefighters arrived to confirm “heavy smoke conditions” and launched a “rapid-fire attack.” The fire, which had spread to the floor, crawlspace and cockloft, was extinguished by 4:32 p.m.

OFS said firefighters then removed “insulation, drywall and other building materials,” to prevent the fire from reigniting.

Only one of the three units had someone in it at the time of the fire, and no one was injured.

The Salvation Army and Red Cross were on scene Friday evening and a fire investigator was en route to investigate a possible cause.
