The pilot of a small plane was able to make an impromptu but safe landing on Highway 5 near Chelsea Sunday afternoon after the aircraft experienced suspected mechanical trouble, police said.
Quebec provincial police got multiple calls from motorists reporting that a small plane was trying to land on the roadway at about 4 p.m. The northbound craft ultimately touched down on the northbound lanes near Old Chelsea Road, a safer approach because traffic was at his or her back, police said. The pilot had set out from the Ottawa-Rockcliffe Airport.
The plane remained on the shoulder Monday morning awaiting a tow truck. Traffic was unaffected, police said.
