The westbound lanes of Highway 401 have been closed near Prescott after a bus crashed into a ditch, leaving dozens injured.
The Ontario Provincial Police said emergency services are on scene at the crash site Monday, just west of Prescott, near Edward Street.
An air ambulance has also been dispatched to the scene and Ornge officials have warned that as many as 30 people have been hurt, some seriously.
Ornge spokesman Joshua McNamara said initial reports indicated that 30-40 people were on board the passenger bus. He could not confirm how many of those passengers were injured or how seriously.
McNamara said one air ambulance has already left the scene with one injured passenger bound for Ottawa, and another is en route from Toronto. A plane has also been dispatched along with an ambulance.
A witness said a Voyageur Transportation Services bus was involved in the crash.
The stretch of highway between Cornwall and Kingston has seen several major collisions during the past several months, and local mayors have asked the province to widen the highway in an attempt to address the issue.
More to come.
